That information will specify processing limits, purposes and methods used.
1.3. Cookies
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files sent to your computer (usually the browser) by web sites you visit, where they are stored allowing the device to be recognised on the next visit to the site. At every visit from then on the cookies are resent from the user’s device to the website. Each cookie generally contains: the name of the server from which the cookie has been sent; its expiry time and value, usually a unique number generated randomly by the computer. The server of the website which transfers the cookie uses this number to recognise you when you return to visit a site or navigate from one page to another. Cookies can be installed not only by the controller of the site visited by the user (first party cookies), but also from different sites which are sent through the first site (third party cookies) and it is able to recognise them. This happens because the visited website may contain items (images, maps, sound files, links to individual web pages on different domains) that are located on servers other than the one where the page being visited is stored. Depending on the purposes, cookies may be distinguished into two groups, technical cookies and profiling cookies.
Technical cookies are those used with the exclusive purpose of “carrying out the transmission of a communication on an electronic communications network, or insofar as this is strictly necessary to the provider of an information society service that has been explicitly requested by the contracting party or user to provide the said service.” (Art 122(1) of the Privacy Code, as modified by legislative decree 69/2012). In particular, these cookies are usually used to allow for efficient navigation between pages, to memorise the user’s preferences (language, country etc), to carry out data authentication, to manage the shopping cart or allow online purchases etc. Some of these cookies (so-called strictly necessary) enable functions, without which it would not be possible to enable certain features. In accordance with the above mentioned art. 122, co Q of the Privacy Code, the use of technical cookies does not require the user’s consent.
Analytics cookies, which can be equated to technical cookies insofar as they are used directly by the website manager to collect aggregate information concerning the number of visitors and the pattern of visits to the website. These cookies allow the website controller and/or manager to understand the ways in which users use the website with the purpose of optimising the service. Profiling cookies are used to track user’s navigation, analyse their behaviour for marketing purposes and create a profile of their likes, habits, choices etc which can then be used to send targeted advertising messages to the user’s device in line with their interests and preferences shown from online navigation. Your prior consent is requested in order to install such cookies, as provided by the Simplified Arrangements indicated in the Provision. According to their duration, cookies can be distinguished in persistent cookies, which remain memorized on the user’s computer, until they expire, unless removed by the user, and session cookies, which are temporary cookie files, which are erased when you close your browser.
